If you want to shop like a local in Iloilo, you have to visit Calle Real, or J.M. Basa Street as it is called today. This is where the heart of the city beats, where you can find all kinds of shops and houses from different cultures and eras. Since the 1880s, this street has been the hub of commerce and trade in Iloilo.
You can see Filipino, American, European, and Chinese stores along its length. One of the most famous and oldest stores is the Botica China.This is where you can buy genuine Chinese products that the Ilonggos loved and trusted for generations. This store is not only a business, but also a symbol of friendship between the Chinese and the Ilonggos. As we celebrate Chinese New Year on February 12, let us honor our Chinese friends who helped make Iloilo City what it is today.
